There are a number of strategies that you can adopt to safeguard the privacy of your research subjects:

1. Data minimisation

2. Data retention limits

3. Secure data transfer

4. Encryption

5. Access permissions

6. Anonymisation

Anonymisation is a process by which identifying information in a dataset is removed. It is used primarily to allow data to be shared or published without revealing the confidential information it contains.

7. Synthethic data

It is also possible to generate a synethic dataset that mimics a real dataset. A syntethic dataset preserves some of the aspects and characteristics of the real data, yet generates a different dataset which can safeguard the original senstive data.
